Dr. Dan Shirley is the Medical Director of Infection Prevention at UW Health.
He said cases of monkeypox in Wisconsin mirror a national trend and are declining.
But he said it’s important public health officials continue to oversee testing and contact tracing of the current cases that are still out there.
“We’re used to COVID, and just having some cases around,” Shirley said. “But with monkeypox, we’re still in the mode of trying to make this go away completely.”
Shirley said it’s important for the public to be aware of the symptoms of monkeypox and report any possible infection to health officials.
“Cases going down is great, but we want to make sure we’re still finding all the cases and treating them properly,” he said.
