Patil asked the authorities to raise public awareness on a large scale to prevent the further spread of the disease. He said the animal husbandry department should submit a proposal to the government regarding the filling up of its vacant posts on a contract basis.
In a review meeting held on September 8, agriculture minister Abdul Sattar had suggested that the animal husbandry department submit a proposal to all collectors to strengthen the necessary disease investigation laboratories for animals at the district level.
Meanwhile, animal husbandry commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh said that on Sunday, they received around 10lakh vaccine doses to control Lumpy Skin Disease.
The spread of this infection has been noticed in 280 villages of 20 districts as of September 11, including Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Akola, Dhule, Pune, Latur, Aurangabad, Beed, Satara, Buldhana, Amravati, Osmanabad, Kolhapur, Sangli, Yavatmal, Parbhani, Solapur, Washim, Nashik and Jalna.
The state animal husbandry department in a press release stated that a total of 42 infected animals have died, including 17 in Jalgaon, 13 in hmednagar , one in Dhule, Akola and Washim each, and three in Pune, Buldhana and Amravati each.
A total of 4.78lakh livestock in 1,566 villages within a 5-km radius of the infected area have been vaccinated. Out of a total of 2,387 infected livestock in affected villages, 1,435 livestock recovered after treatment. The rest are being treated.
