Not that the problems deterred everyone from flying. One of our best read stories was about six English men who were arrested on their arrival at Schiphol for brawling on their flight from Manchester – all of which was captured on film.
It was also the month when monkeypox was first identified in the Netherlands. Five months later, the vaccination programme was wound down and the outbreak declared over.
In May, the European Commission published proposals for changes to the rules on work and residence permits for non-EU nationals in an effort to make the EU more attractive and address skill shortages across the continent.
And appropriately enough, our best read feature was a column on the perils of being assimilated into Dutch culture.
