PONDA: After 15 suspected cases of lumpy skin disease (LSD) detected in the State last month with most of them at Ponda and Bicholim, Dharbandora locals on Tuesday noticed such two suspected cases, one calf infected found near a river basin and another at some other place.
Immediately, the alert locals informed the Dharbandora veterinary doctors, who did a medical check up and administered injections to the two calves. The veterinary doctors refused to provide details about their condition.
There are around 100 cattle in the area where the two affected calves were found. The veterinary doctor advised locals to tie their cattle in one place so that they do not mix with other cattle.
It may be recalled that last month, the veterinary doctors informed the locals about the LSD, which does not spread among humans and only spread in cattle through skin-to-skin contact or sharing of cattle feed. The doctors had also advised while consuming milk or meat to cook it well.
Last month, Goa Dairy Chairman Rajesh Faldesai had also cautioned dairy farmers to take precautionary measures and the Goa Dairy was the first to create awareness among its farmers about the LSD and directing them to administer vaccine to their cattle.
